Slab Sculpture Reflection (3-F): 4/9/12
1. The strong parts of my project is the unique design. It has a unique shape as it is not just a wall surrounding a rounded base. It has curves on it to make it stand out.
Evalutate: I think I could have done a better job on this project by making it have more designs on it. This would help it stand out more and bring more attention to it and its details.
Describe: The attributes of theme in my slab sculpture include a curved wall that has added bends in different areas. This creates a form that sticks out and brings atttention to it.
Describe: The form of my sculpture is a cylindrical shape which is smooth. I built it like this because it could be used to display small objects in a special type of placement.
I was inspired to make the design this way from a picture of a slab sculpture. The primary meaning of my design is to show that anything can look elegant if given place to be presented. I accomplished this by making the wall have curves and bends around the top and leaving an open side of the wall to place objects on giving it the appearence of a throne. The reason I made it this way was to let smaller more common objects look classy.
Metacognate: I learned from this project that adding different curves and bends in a clay's shape can make it look more appealing and interesting. In life this can be a lesson of appreciation of average everyday things and maybe make people think more about how they look at them in thier daily lives. The reason for this is that sometimes we look and use the things we have without second thought about how special they really are.
Evalutate: I made made my sculpture the way it is because I wanted to replicate another design but also add my own unique style. This was not entirely planned but the intial form was part of the original design. What happened by chance was the opened side of the wall. The final project did not look like I had thought of in the beginnng because of the opened side of the sculpture's wall. I had originally planned to make a small cylindrical slab vessel that opened up to form a small corner at the top. While making the wall I found out that I could not get the clay to form completely around the base. With this I turned a problem into an opportunity and made was is the finished project.
